What? That Uses Data?

So, we all use and share the OUESD wifi network (it’s like one, big “family plan”), but you may not know what types of media can use up a lot of the data.

Did you know that these media types take a heavier toll on our network/wifi/internet services?

  • Online music (like Pandora, Spotify, Google Play Music, and online radio stations)
  • All video (like YouTube)
  • Any graphic intense, interactive website
  • Websites that don’t change often (informational sites for reading or research) don’t use up that much data.

The Tech Dept. asks that we all keep this in mind when accessing the Internet.  If there is another source available (such as an actual radio or CDs for music), please use it!  And close all web browser windows when no longer in use (the page continues to access the internet and use up our data- especially for those constantly changing ads, music, videos, etc.).  Thanks for your help to use our shared data wisely!

How To Connect your Chromebook to Your Home Wifi

A few OUESD teachers have asked me if they can take their teacher Chromebook home and connect it to their home wifi.  Yes, absolutely!  This is not required (and remember- you don’t need your Chromebook to log into your Google device- you can log into your Google account from any device, anywhere), but it’s also no problem if you’d like’d like to take it homet!  Here are some Chromebook wifi “how to” docs that may come in handy (click  the links below or scroll  down to see the embedded doc):

How to ReConnnect Your Chromebook to Your Home Wifi (if it should become disconnected for any reason or you just need to switch to a different wifi network)

Please note:  Everyone is still responsible for their device (on and off campus).  Do not leave your Chromebook in your car, and make sure it remains secure when in your home.  Lastly, remember to always have your Chromebook available to you in your classroom each day (don’t leave it at home).
